Congratulations on your ColdLand DIY Knife Making Kit!
We are excited to welcome you into the craft of knife making. This kit includes all essential components needed to assemble your first custom knife. Please follow the instructions carefully to ensure the best results.
Kit Components
Your kit includes:
- Blade Blank – Pre-shaped blade
- Handle Scales – Wood, micarta, or other material
- Pins / Mosaic Pins – For securing the handle
- Optional Components – Bolsters, liners, spacers (if included)
- Instruction Guide / Diagram (if included)
Required Tools
For assembly, you will need:
- Clamps
- Drill and drill bits (if needed)
- Files or rasps
- Sandpaper (various grits)
- Epoxy adhesive
- Safety gear (gloves, goggles, mask)
- Workbench or vise
- Ruler and marker
Assembly Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Blade
- Inspect the blade for any damage or rust.
- Wipe off protective oil before starting.
- Avoid drilling additional holes unless necessary, as most kits come pre-drilled.
Step 2: Prepare Handle Scales
- Align scales with the blade tang.
- Mark pinhole positions carefully.
- Drill holes if required, ensuring perfect alignment.
Tip: Use a drill press for better accuracy and stability.
Step 3: Attach Handle Scales
- Mix epoxy according to instructions.
- Apply epoxy evenly on the tang.
- Attach the first scale and insert pins.
- Apply epoxy on the other side and attach the second scale.
- Secure tightly using clamps.
Important: Remove excess epoxy before it hardens. Allow at least 24 hours curing time.
Step 4: Shape the Handle
- Mark your desired handle shape.
- Rough shape using files or sanding tools.
- Smooth with finer grit sandpaper.
- Ensure a comfortable ergonomic grip.
Step 5: Finishing
- Polish the handle for a smooth finish.
- Apply oil, wax, or varnish (for wooden handles).
- Clean and polish the blade.
- Sharpen if required.
Step 6: Final Testing & Care
- Ensure handle is secure and properly aligned.
- Perform a light test cut.
- Clean blade after each use and apply oil to prevent rust.
- Store in a dry place.
